Volunteer Registration & Information

This page provides information for individuals who may wish to participate in Thornlands Toad Busting activities. Participation is voluntary and undertaken at your own risk.

Who Can Participate

Important Notice

Thornlands Toad Busting is a relaxed, voluntary community activity. Participation is entirely optional, and individuals take part at their own pace and at their own risk.

The group does not provide formal training or supervision. From time to time, volunteers may observe how other participants choose to catch cane toads (for example, using litter pickers), and organisers may share general information about areas where toads have recently been seen, such as near fences, drains, or ponds.

This information is provided as general guidance only. Each person decides independently whether, where, and how they choose to participate.

Native frogs are protected wildlife and must not be harmed. If you are ever unsure whether an animal is a cane toad, please do not handle it.

What Volunteering May Do

Volunteer participation may include, at an individual’s discretion:

  • Becoming familiar with how cane toads are commonly identified
  • Helping reduce attractants such as food, water, and shelter
  • Choosing to take part in commonly used safe and humane handling practices
  • Sharing accurate, responsible information within the community

Volunteers are responsible for their own safety and wellbeing while participating. Thornlands Toad Busting is not an incorporated organisation and does not provide formal training, supervision, insurance, or equipment.

Volunteers may receive general information or guidance from other participants; however, this does not constitute formal training or supervision.

Native frogs are protected wildlife under Queensland law and must not be harmed. Volunteers must only handle cane toads and should not handle any animal if they are unsure of its identification.

Volunteers are encouraged to take reasonable care, wear appropriate protective equipment, and only participate in activities they feel comfortable undertaking.
